Dear BPG Members,
Hope everyone had a very Blessed Easter and were able to spend time with family members. This year is passing so quickly! It's hard to believe Easter has already passed.
We had a great show, sale and meeting during Houston. Our numbers continue to be on the rise. I believe Beefmaster cattle were extremely well represented by the quality animals that BPG members continue to walk into the show ring. I would like to commend all of you on doing such an excellent job.
The semen tank that we auctioned off brought in $7500. A big "thank you" goes out to all of the breeders that donated semen to go in this tank. This was the first time that all of the past Grand and Reserve Champion Bulls were ever put together in a tank. Thanks to our donors, this was quite a unique offering. Channarock Farms, Ellis Beefmasters, Emmons Ranch, Vaughn Family Farm, Gilmore Ranch, HG Griffin, Zipperer Beefmasters, Rafter G Bar, Anderson Beefmasters, Wallen Prairie Ranch and Grullo Beefmasters.
We also had semen donated by Larry & Sherri Ellis--Ellis' Hollywood, CB Supreme--N-U Ruston and Wallen Prairie Ranch--WPR's Primetime. Our members are so generous and that is what keeps BPG growing!!
The BPG International Beefmaster Gala had a sale average of $5185, up from $3920 last year. The sale grossed $103,700. Thanks to all the consignors for working so hard to make the sale happen.
An issue that was brought up at our meeting was the difficulty it is in collecting dues from our members. Some of you pay on time (Yeah!!) and always take care of your business. Some, on the otherhand, make it very difficult to collect their dues. Dues are a big money maker for our association. Just at the Houston show alone, the BPG paid out $3500 in premium money (which Houston matches) and about $2000 in awards. That costs us $5500 at 1 show, which shows how much we need to collect the dues money. Gina Paris has been collecting the dues since the Fort Worth show and has worked really hard trying to make sure no one gets away without paying. If you see Gina coming with guns blazing, you better give her money!!!!! She is on a mission! I have requested to all of the fall shows to put at the top of our page, dues must be paid before entering the show ring.
Hopefully, this will help. Gina will have a booth set up with a sign at each show. She has ordered BPG logo stamps to stamp your exhibitor numbers as being a paid member of BPG. Please go by her booth after you check in and get your exhibitor numbers stamped as being a paid BPG member. Help police this by sending exhibitors to Gina if you do not see the "paid stamp" on anyone's numbers. This is to help everyone in our group. The money that BPG collects, either by dues or donations, goes back to the members in premium money and awards. Help Us Help You!!
Another way BPG members benefit by paying their dues is FREE advertising. BPG is putting together a membership directory for its membership. We are offering all members the opportunity to advertise their program in this directory. Each member can put a full page ad in this directory. It must be camera ready for a 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 page book. The deadline for all ads is September 1. The directory will be handed out beginning at the Fort Worth Livestock Show. You can email these ads to me.
BPG awarded the inaugural Hall of Fame Females and Hall of Fame Bulls at the Houston Livestock Show. It was so exciting to see this actually happen. Each recipient was awarded a certificate and will be awarded a bronze as soon as they are finished. If you received one of these awards, please send me a photo of your animal, with name and pedigree to go on our Hall of Fame page on the website. Congratulations to all of you. A big "THANKS" to Mona Mink for taking the extra time to tally all of these points from 2008.
